LIONEL 262E, 265W, 610, 610, 612 RED & SILVER PASSENGER CAR SET. Original.  WOW!  The red and silver cars were used in Lionel Specials around 1935.   Unique with this set is that it includes the "265WX Outfit". This was a separate sale whistle tender which included the whistle controller.   This set was recently acquired from the original owner who has had the set since he received it as a child. The patina on this set is fantastic and the silver roofs have never been cleaned, waxed or otherwise fooled with which ruins the proper hue and patina of the fragile silver color paint.  The roofs are absolutely  as they should be.

All the wheels, axles and trim are all bright and shiny with no rust. The silver "The Lionel Lines" stamping above the windows on the passenger cars is particularly nice. The whistle controller doesn't look like it's been used.  A low run time set for sure.

All the boxes are present.  They all have their end flaps, the engine box is missing one small inner flap on each end, one 610 box is missing one small inner flap and the 612 box is missing one small inner flap. All the box flaps have been repaired or reattached but no tape.  The engine box has it's insert and the tender has the  hard to come by tender outfit box with all flaps and a great label.  With the exception of the tender box, the boxes grade C-5.

The motor does bind on each revolution.   I looked at it and can see no obvious reason for this to be occurring. I noticed no broken gears or swollen wheels etc. and it does spin freely between binds, the motor is quite clean  and the wiring is good so I think it should run just fine with some tinkering by someone who knows what they are doing with these motors.  The whistle spools up to speed and has a nice tone. A drop of oil on the armature shaft probably would be a good idea but I didn't want to open the tender up since I know the whistle does work well.
