MARX GENERAL ALARM FIRE HOUSE. c.1938. Outstanding near mint, original condition. From information I found the patent #2,135,584 was applied for in 1937. Original. Lithographed tin construction with two pressed steel vehicles. The fire chief car is the scarcer version with the Marx logo embossed on the trunk. I'm not sure that this toy was ever played with. If it was, it certainly wasn't played with very much. The red metal winding arrow inserts into the roof and is wound about one turn to set the bell. Push both vehicles back into the bays to engage the catapults then pull the lever in the alarm box on the front corner of the base, the bell rings and both cars launch out of the fire station. Every thing works as it should but it does need one catapult spring replaced. This is a common hardware item and very easy accessible from the bottom of the toy so replacing it will be a breeze. The original box is all there and includes the insert for the vehicles and arrow bell winder, two corners have neat splits and could easily be repaired. The original instructions are present. There are a few minor scratches on the center building which really don't detract but not much else worth mentioning in the way of wear. An exceptionally clean and bright toy. You would be hard pressed to find a nicer example. SET GRADES C-8 PRICE: $995.00 Copyright © 1999-2012 Classic Collectables |
