LIONEL 226E, 2226W, 2613, 2614, 2615 c.1938. Original. The set is in amazing condition. The loco has the black number plate with 226E, Lionel Lines on it. It has been tested and runs fine both forward and reverse. The e-unit cycled properly. The whistle spools up to speed but lacks much whistle, probably due to an air leak. The cars are clean and bright with only very, very minimal wear. This set is just about a nice as I've seen. It obviously has been a well cared for set. I have graded the set C-7 to be conservative although I think you could make a very strong argument to grade it C-8. The boxes. The 226 loco box is by far the worst of the lot. One end flap has been taped on, mussing all other flaps but it does have the top and bottom inserts that protected the engine inside the box. The 2226W tender box has both end flaps and all tuck flaps plus the coupler flap on one end, but not the other, some neat repairs. The2613 box has both end flaps and all tuck flaps plus the coupler flap on one end only. The box has been overstamped on the ends adding the 2 to 613 as shown in the photos, no repairs. The 2614 box has both end flaps and all tuck flaps with the coupler flap on one end only, some neat repairs. The 2615 box has the end flap and tuck flaps on one end, no flaps on the other. The box has been overstamped on the end adding the 2 to 615 as shown in the photos, no repairs. SET GRADES C-7 + PRICE: SOLD Copyright © Classic Collectables 1999-2008 |
