IVES DEPARTMENT STORE SPECIAL HB2. Original. Consists of Lionel / Ives transition 257 loco, 610, 612 olive green passenger cars, all in their original boxes. The price sticker on the box shows that this set was sold by Hecht's Reliable and sold for an amazing $7.95. The loco does not have the "E" designation with it's number indicating that it does not have the automatic reverse mechanism. Incidentally, often a way that Lionel / Ives would help reduce cost to offer specials at discount prices. The motor has been tested and runs. The set is in fantastic original condition, very clean, no dents or rust. The cars have nice Ives Lines decals above the windows (which covered up the rubber stamped Lionel Lines in this area as these were Lionel production sold under the Ives name during the Lionel take over of Ives in the Ives bankruptcy. Included is the Lionel - Ives type U transformer manufactured by Aladdin with original box. The box has all it's flaps with some staining.

The Boxes are the tough transition boxes. The loco box has both end flaps correctly marked "257 Black" and all the side fold in flaps plus the usually missing original liner for the loco. The tender box has both end flaps properly marked "257T Black", missing two of the side fold in flaps. The pullman car box is correctly marked "610X L. Olive", missing one end flap and one of the side fold in flaps. The observation car box is correctly marked "612X L. Olive", has both end flaps and missing three of the side fold in flaps. The set box top has two corner splits neatly repaired (no tape) with a complete label. The bottom is complete and solid.

Rare to find as a boxed special set and in great original condition.
